All I know is that XBMC on the mac mini gives me the blue light when connected via optical cable directly to the amp, then if I switch output to HDMI via the TV and back to the amp via optical cable out of the TV (which is the exact setup of the QNAP) then I get the blue light again.
When I first fired up Kodi and played a video from the QNAP, the blue multichannel decoding light came on on the amplifier.
I was very pleased as I had never managed to get DTS working for Kodi on my mac mini with the same setup.
In fact I have messed around endlessly on the mac mini with kodi, XBMC and Plex not really understanding what I was doing, and only getting it to work on XBMC.
I went ahead and configured the video output settings in kodi and then messed about installing other apps on the QNAP.
Its worth mentioning that the only way I can tell if it is working is whether the blue light comes on the front of the amp labelled multichannel decoding.
Now I know it can work because I saw it once at the start, so it shouldnt be a problem with the cables or the TV.
I have tried every possible combination of expert audio settings I can imagine in Kodi to no avail.
I also tried reading several threads on here and following suggestions but no luck.
Nothing I do can get that blue light to come on the front of the amp telling me it is doing multichannel decoding.
Can anyone recommend a systematic approach to trying to get DTS payback on the QNAP Ive found DTS to be incredibly temperamental and hard to get to work on the mac mini and now the QNAP with Plex, Kodi and XBMC.
The only thing I am fairly sure of is that I should be selecting passthrough.
This gives me sound, but the multichannel decoding light doesnt come on, but when I select DTS capable receiver in expert settings, I get no sound output at all.
If I go to audio settings, expert and select pass through it enables other options but selecting those options doesnt seem to do anything until I turn passthrough off then on again.
Xbmc On Mini Or Windows For Best Dts Hd How To Debug This
This is the problem, I dont know how to debug this because I dont know how to test any individual parts of the system.
When I turn the TV on, the amp displays PCM 48kHz suggesting that it is digital.
Plus sounds comes out when connected by an optical cable, so.
The TV has a infinite surround option, but this does not make the amp multichannel decoding light come on.
So its not a problem with the TV or the HDMI in and optical out with the TV.
This means it should be purely a software issue with the QNAP.
This is consistent with the fact that when I first plugged it in, I got multichannel decoding.
What I mean by multi-channel decoding, is that there is a blue light front and centre on the AMP display, labelled multichannel decoding and when it gets the right stream, this light comes on.
So far as I know, when the light is on I am getting surround sound out of the speakers.
When the light is not on, I am not really sure whats going on because I sometimes get sound out of all speakers, but e.g.
